We know that applying for graduate role can feel like a big step. If you’re in your final year at university, you’re probably juggling deadlines, exams, and thoughts about what comes next.
At Hawsons, we’ve supported many graduates through the next step in their careers. We understand how uncertain it can feel, and we want to make the process as straightforward and reassuring as possible.
Below, we have pulled together the most common questions we get from students and graduates thinking about applying for our graduate accountancy positions. We hope it helps you feel more informed and at ease.
Graduate Scheme FAQs
Does Hawsons offer graduate roles?
Yes, we do. Every September, we welcome a group of graduate trainees into our teams in Sheffield, Doncaster, and Northampton.
What are your entry requirements?
We welcome applicants from all degree backgrounds. You don’t need to have studied accountancy to apply.
Our usual requirements are:
- At least a predicted or achieved 2:1 degree
- At least 112 UCAS points (new tariff) or 280 points (old tariff)
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade 5 (or Grade B) or above
How do I apply?
You can apply by completing the application form on our website. It’s a simple process that gives you the opportunity to tell us a bit about yourself and your interest in accountancy and our graduate role.
When do applications close?
Applications for our 2026 graduate accountancy positions close on 7 November 2025. It’s a good idea to apply early if you can, especially if you have university deadlines around the same time.
What is the interview process like at Hawsons?
Once applications close, we’ll review every submission. Successful applicants will be invited to complete a more detailed application form.
Following that successful applicants will be invited to attend a two stage interview process. All of our interviews are face-to-face.
I graduated a few years ago. Can I still apply?
Yes, absolutely. Whether you graduated recently or a few years ago, you’re welcome to apply.
Do you offer sponsorship for international students?
We’re not able to offer sponsorship. You’ll need to have full right to live and work in the UK to apply for a graduate position with us.
How many trainees do you recruit each year?
We usually take on up to 10 graduates each year across our three offices in Sheffield, Doncaster and Northampton.
What training will I receive at Hawsons?
From day one, you’ll be involved in real client work, supported by our experienced staff and approachable partners.
You’ll also begin working towards your ACA qualification. We use First Intuition, one of the UK’s top tuition providers, to support you through the exams. You’ll be given study time, and ongoing support throughout your training. Additional, practical training will be given by Mercia throughout your training contract and beyond.
How long does it take to become a Chartered Accountant?
It usually takes around three years to qualify. During that time, you’ll complete 14 exams and build up 450 days of practical work experience.
You’ll be learning on the job, surrounded by a team that wants to see you succeed.
