Hawsons Corporate Finance team has supported Glenbrook Holdings Ltd in the acquisition of a former Girlguiding activity centre in the Hope Valley, Peak District, which is set to reopen this Easter as a campsite, caravan site and later a café.
Jack Ware, Corporate Finance Director at Hawsons, provided specialist accounting and tax advice to Directors Andrew Lazenby and Gill Petty including detailed financial modelling to support fundraising for the acquisition.
The ten‑acre Glenbrook site – previously a long‑standing Girlguiding activity centre – includes a house and cottage, a distinctive purpose‑built dormitory block with commercial kitchen, dining hall, land for 150 pitches, and coach and car parking. It will reopen as Hope Valley Holidays later to be joined by Forest Stage Café. The redevelopment is expected to create between ten and fifteen jobs in the Hope Valley.
The new owners, both Hope Valley residents, have a strong affinity to the local community and the sensitive nature of the local environment, and are dedicated to continuing the community benefit that the site provides.
Andrew Lazenby, said:
“As local residents, it has been disappointing to see the closure of this landmark Hope Valley facility for so long. We recognise the significance of this property and are dedicated to ensuring its future use, creating local jobs and contributing to the local economy.
"We plan to run Glenbrook as a camp and caravan site for all, with a café at a later date, offering subsidised access for groups and working closely with the local community. Our aim is to keep Glenbrook as a welcoming activity centre and hub, and have already secured a camping licence for the centre. We are also working with a local outdoor adventure company to bring further activities.
“Over the years, thousands of girls, young women and youth groups from across the country have visited this unique and much-loved venue to develop leadership, teamwork and community skills, and we now look forward to playing a part in preserving this site, enhancing its facilities and introducing, and welcoming, a whole new tranche of visitors to experience what Glenbrook and the surrounding area has to offer.”
Commenting on Hawsons’ involvement, Jack Ware added:
“This is a fantastic project that will bring real value back to the local community. We were pleased to support Andrew and Gill with detailed financial modelling and tax planning to ensure they could move forward with confidence. It is always rewarding to be involved in acquisitions that have both strong commercial potential and meaningful community purpose.”
Legal advice to Glenbrook Holdings was provided by Travis Wood, Senior Associate Commercial Property Solicitor at MD Law.
