CQC GP inspections

It’s been almost one year since CQC introduced new style inspections of GP practices and out-of-hours services in England, a big revamp which led to the first ever ratings of practices. Now, CQC aims to inspect nearly 500 practices every month before its deadline of inspecting all practices across England by 2016.

We have published a detailed guide in how GPs can prepare for their CQC inspection.

Publishing GP net earnings

The NHS Employers and the General Practitioners Committee of the BMA have announced changes to the GMS contract in England for 2015/16. In unprecedented plans to increase the transparency of practices, one of the main changes is the publication of GP earnings. The changes came into force on April 2015 and it is now a contractual requirement for GMS practices to publish details of GPs’ net earnings on their practice website by 31 March 2016.

GP succession

With so many GP practices likely to be transitioning to the next generation over the next 2 to 5 years, succession planning for GPs is certainly a central management issue for many involved in the sector.

On 23rd June 2016 the UK voted to leave the European Union. From the argument over selling bendy bananas to the threat of an emergency Budget, the EU referendum campaign has undoubtedly had its share of the headlines over the past couple of months. The biggest headline now though is of course that the UK has voted to leave the EU.
